Tropical Key West is visited by millions every year for its beautiful beaches. However, locals know that there are some real gems among these sandy shores if you know where to look. Here are some of the gems we have found to make your Key West vacation an exciting and unique experience.

Hemingway Home

Located at 907 Whitehead Street and nestled in the heart of Old Town Key West, this unique property was home to one of America’s most honored and respected authors. Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote here for more than ten years. Calling Key West home, he found solace and great physical challenge in the turquoise waters that surround this tiny island. Step back in time and visit the rooms and gardens that witnessed the most prolific period of this Nobel Prize winner’s writing career.

Dolphin Watching Tour

A dolphin watching tour followed by a guided kayak tour through the mangroves to explore the shallow waters of Key West. Glide through the winding mangrove creeks and paddle through inches of water, where you can easily view and learn about the fragile Keys ecosystem. Scuba Diving

The Florida Keys’ reefs are the only living coral reefs in the continental United States. Our coral reefs, which lie about 7 miles offshore, are teeming with tropical fish, hard and soft corals, sponges, snails, jellyfish, anemones, crabs, lobsters, rays, sea turtles, nurse sharks, and other sea life. There are around 110 species of corals and over 500 species of tropical fish in our coral reef community. Try scuba diving, snorkeling or snuba diving.

Dry Tortugas

Almost 70 miles (113 km) west of Key West lies the remote Dry Tortugas National Park. See a civil war fortress, relax on the beach & snorkel with unique marine life.

Fort Zachary Taylor

This state park features beach and water sport rentals, nature trails, a cafe, and pre-Civil war fortress. The park is open from 8am to 5pm, 365 days a year.

Mallory Square

This waterfront square is filled with restaurants and shops, but is most famous for its nightly festivals to watch the sunset. The Sunset celebration includes all sorts entertainment like magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists and food vendors.

Sunset Cruise

Cruise the tropical waters of Key West with a warm ocean breeze and magnificent sunset. Toast the end of another perfect day in paradise & watch the sun disappear on the horizon.

Southernmost Point of the Continental US

Stand at this simple monument and you will stand at the southern most point of the continental U.S.A. It is even exactly 90 miles from Cuba.

Truman Little White House

This historic museum /house once served as President Harry S. Truman's winter white house. Today they offer guided tours that offer a glimpse into the personal life of President Truman.

The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory

This glass-enclosed, plant filled habitat is filled with colorful species of not only butterflies but birds as well. Perfect for interactive and educational walks.

Key West Events

There is always something happening in Key West, from January to December with everything from Florida Keys fishing tournaments to Fantasy Fest, to a gathering to celebrate the Conch Republic's Independence.
